How to get to Santorini

There are many options to get here. Most of the people visit more than one Greek island. You can book a flight to Athens and go by ferry (5 hours ferry from Athens), or from another island. You can buy a direct flight to Santorini International Airport and then move between islands. We used this Ferry company to travel to each island.

Things to do:

1. Walk through the streets of Oía

Oía is one of the best places to see the amazing views and the white typical houses and arched roofs. If you go by car, you can park across the post office at the entrance of the town (if you ask, everyone knows this spot). From the post office, you’ll enter the narrow walking streets of Oía with beautiful places to stay, restaurants, and shops. You can visit the main square and the mills.

If you walk the little town you’ll find the church with the famous blue domes. This spot is a must to take the perfect picture.

If you are looking for a great spot to see the famous sunsets in Oía, you can go to the mills, (go early to get a good spot, mainly in high season).

2. Sunsets from Imerovigli

Situated at the highest point on the cliffside, it’s our favorite town to see the views and the sunset. It’s also located between Fira (the main city) and Oía.

This town is less visited that Oía and in our opinion, has better views so if you prefer a less crowded place, this one is the best option. You can go to the main square, and to the restaurants with best views. Remember to book in advance.

3. Visit Skaros Rock at Imerovigli

One of the best spots in the town of Imerovigli is Skaros Rock. If you are looking for a stunning landscape with the ocean behind, this is definitely the place. You can have a hike (about 15min) and visit the church in front of the sea.

4. A.Spa at Katikies Kirini Santorini

Located at Katikies kirini Santorini Hotel (one of our favorites), A. SPA is a great option to rest and get pampered after all the stairs and walking of Oía town. The place has amazing treatments and the staff is the best. You can also relax at the stunning cave pool. You’ll feel the essence of the island in this place. Angelo, the spa manager, is very kind and will help you with everything you need.

5. Swimming pool with a view

Another very particular thing about Santorini, are the quantity of pools. The island is well known for the infinity pools with the best views. A very romantic way to spend your vacation here. Almost all of the places to stay have a private pool in the room. So if you have the chance, enjoy a couple of hours swimming with a view.

Where to stay?

You have a lot of options to stay in Santorini. If you go with a low budget, you can rent an Airbnb in Oía. We stayed a few nights at this Airbnb. The service of the people that will help you with your luggage from the parking lot to the place is included in the price.

If you prefer to stay at a hotel, we highly recommend Katikies Kirini Santorini. It’s a stunning and big comfy hotel. The views from the rooms are breathtaking and they have lots of rooms with infinity private pools with sea views. The facilities are beyond imagination. if you have seen the typical steps with a view, those are from this hotel.

Tip. Remember Oía have a lot of stairs because is uphill and you’ll be moving every day between them, so try to travel lightweight.

Where to eat?

Greek food is really good. Our favorite places to eat are:

Breakfast

You can have a great breakfast at Terpsis Noia with an amazing view.

Lunch

Skala Restaurant, (Oía main street), or Anthos (Katikies Kirini Hotel).

Dinner

For a cozy dinner, Roka Restaurant (Oía) is a great choice and  Fivesenses Restaurant (Imerovigli) has stunning sunset views and the best food and cocktails.

Best time of the year to visit Santorini

We recommend you visit this island between May to June, or September to October to avoid a lot of tourists. July and August are high seasons and the temperatures are very high. In low season you’ll find a lot of restaurants and places closed.
